Forest Houses Resort Frequently Asked Questions

Forest Houses Resort is situated on 20 wooded acres in upper Oak Creek Canyon. The resort is separated from Highway 89A by trees and Oak Creek – a clear, cool, continuously flowing mountain stream stocked with Rainbow and Brown trout and supporting an abundance of birds and wildlife. The canyon walls and multi-colored cliffs of basalt, lava, limestone and sandstone are forested with red maple, aspen, chaparral and seven varieties of oaks.

  • Check in is after 3 p.m., and check out is before 11 a.m.
  • We will be in the office until 7 p.m., but you can check in later than that. We will set up a late arrival envelope for you, with key and map, and put it on our office door. Simply come to the office, get the key and directions, and make yourself comfortable in your house.

Things to Do

  • There are many hiking trails nearby, as well as Oak Creek mere steps from your house to swim and fish in. For detailed descriptions about hiking and fishing, please see our Activites page. We have many games and books available at our office for your entertainment, including outdoor games that you can play on our large grass lawn. Sedona and Flagstaff offer many things to do: art galleries, restaurants, jeep tours, breweries and wineries, shopping, movies, historical sites, etc.
  • We are 2 miles away from Slide Rock State Park, and 1 mile away from West Fork.
  • Oak Creek runs continuously year round. It never drys up, and is always around the same flow and temperature.
  • The closest is a restaurant 1 mile south of us at Junipine Resort for lunch and dinner, and there is a cafe about 5.5 miles south of us called Indian Gardens. For grocery items, there is a market ¼ mile north of us at Don Hoel’s Cabins that sells essentials. Besides that, there are many restaurants and full grocery stores in Sedona and Flagstaff. The office staff would be happy to make recommendations for you.

Pets

  • Yes – all but 5 of our houses are pet-friendly. The houses that do not allow pets are: The Overlook, The Chalet House, Mary’s House, The Sycamore House, and The Oak House. We keep these houses pet-free in order to accommodate for allergies.
  • You can bring up to 2 pets, and this includes dogs, cats, birds, etc. Of the 2 pets you can bring, both must be under 50 pounds. If your dog is a service animal, please review the ADA Service Animal Guidelines. Note that emotional support dogs are not service animals under Arizona law, and would thus qualify as pets.
  • We charge a $30 pet fee per pet (one-time charge, not nightly), due at the time of check in. By bringing the pet you agree to our pet policies: to keep the pet leashed at all times, to not leave the pet inside the house unattended unless inside a crate, to clean up after your pet, and to cover furniture/bedding with sheets to prevent pet hair from getting on furniture/bedding. The pet/pet owner may be not allowed to return if there is any infraction of this policy.
